She is known for her level-headed problem-solving abilities when facing multivariable risk factors. Erika’s unique skill set includes developing data-driven projections with a comprehensive eye for detail.

Erika attended Boston University, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in International Relations, focusing on Security Studies & Foreign Policy. After graduation, Erika continued academics at King’s College London, earning her master’s degree in War Studies. Years later, Erika returned to Boston as a teaching fellow for a Graduate course on violent extremism. She worked alongside Professor Jessica Stern in the Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University. Stern has been teaching counter-terrorism seminars for the last 20 years. She has written about deradicalization programs for terrorists.  The National Institute of Justice is financing her current study on measures to prevent recidivism among discharged violent extremists.

Erika served for years as the Director of Pinkerton, a risk management and security firm that was established in the 1900s. Initially a detective agency, Pinkerton was the origin of today’s Secret Service Agency. In addition to providing top-of-the-line comprehensive risk advice, Pinkerton also sells products to detect and protect against incoming threats, provides integrated intelligence-driven protection 24/7, and conducts global investigations to help clients make evidence-based decisions. Pinkerton is also an international gateway to an exclusive network of subject matter experts, which is an added resource at clients’ disposal.

Prior to being elevated to Director of Pinkerton’s Chicago office, Erika Koutrakis worked for Pinkerton as an assistant with tactical operations. In this role, Erika used information from the Global Risk Group (GRG) and used the information to manage operations in all five New England states.

The non-profit Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP) was founded by law enforcement, prosecutors, mental health professionals, corporate security experts, probation and parole officials, and other professionals who work in the discipline of threat and violence risk assessment. ATAP’s purpose is to create a professional and educational environment for its members to explore ideas and techniques for dealing with issues such as harassment, intimidation, and homeland defense. The fundamental purpose of this organization is to provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and overall preparation for its members to cope with potential catastrophes.

Erika is well-versed in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, Greek, and Arabic.
